Friends,
Update about Dnipro:
The situation in Ukraine remains troubling, with ongoing bombardment by Russia affecting our communities across the region. Even areas that were relatively quiet at the outset of the conflict are now experiencing heightened activity. Just two nights ago, Dnipro, where Action’s headquarters are located, was severely attacked. While we are relieved that all our colleagues are safe, the attack resulted in significant damage, including the targeting of a power plant, leading to widespread power outages and the evacuation of hospitals, along with the closure of five schools.
As we approach the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and enter the third year of conflict, fatigue is setting in among the populace. Additionally, many of our colleagues, volunteers, and those we serve have loved ones in Israel, adding to their concerns. Two years, two wars—it’s all too much.
During a recent meeting with our volunteer coordinators in Ukraine, they emphasized the importance of our support. They described how the recipients, particularly the elderly, are uplifted by the aid provided by Action. It’s not just about the practical assistance; it’s about feeling cared for and connected in a time of great uncertainty. Your generosity makes a tangible difference on multiple levels, and we are deeply grateful for your support.

As I witness the challenges faced by our communities in Ukraine, compounded by the ongoing crisis in Israel, I am compelled to take action.. This journey represents more than a mere visit; it symbolizes a profound commitment to solidarity, bridging gaps between nations and fostering lasting connections between Boston, Dnipro, and Israel.
Our six-day itinerary is designed to offer a multifaceted exploration of Israel post-October 7th, addressing urgent needs and engaging in meaningful interactions. From special Shabbat celebrations in Jerusalem to insightful discussions with influential figures from the refusenik era, every aspect of our journey is infused with purpose. We seek to listen, learn, and contribute, particularly to the challenges faced by elders transitioning from one war-torn region to another.
Moreover, we are hopeful to secure support from Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston to alleviate some of the trip costs and facilitate the participation of Ella Gonchorova, Action’s Director in Ukraine. Ella’s firsthand experiences navigating the realities of war in Ukraine will offer invaluable insights, enriching our understanding and guiding our efforts towards meaningful impact.
I extend this invitation to you, inviting you to join me on this journey of solidarity and compassion. Together, we can provide support, extend a compassionate hand to the elderly Russian-speaking community, and stand in solidarity with those displaced from Ukraine, now finding themselves displaced once again in Israel.
Attached please find information about the trip including the draft itinerary, pricing and basic logistical information. The itinerary for the Volunteer & Solidarity Mission to Israel-Through an Action-PSJ Lens is subject to change as the situation evolves. Speaker confirmations will be provided closer to the trip’s commencement.
If you are interested in joining us, please register for the trip here. No deposit is required at this time. Space is limited, and your presence would be a valuable contribution to our mission.
Please email me directly at Debbie@actionpsj.org if interested in the informational meeting or with any questions about the trip.
Thank you for considering this invitation. Together, let us make a difference and forge bonds of solidarity that transcend borders.
Warm regards,
