Dear Friends,
Today’s news of the US’s 90-day suspension of foreign assistance has sent ripples of uncertainty through vulnerable communities worldwide. For the people Action for Post-Soviet Jewry serves—those in Ukraine who are internally displaced, elderly, or living in dire poverty—this decision is deeply unsettling. It could put countless individuals who already live in the margins of the service gap at even greater risk.
This news underscores the critical importance of Action-PSJ’s three pillars of service:
- Microgrants: Empowering individuals with the resources to live in dignity.
- Physical and Emotional Health: Through telehealth and art therapy, people receive the care and compassion they need to heal and thrive.
- Meeting Basic Needs: Providing essentials like food, heat, and medicine.
For people who rely on international aid, this ban and potential change in aid, creates a vacuum that private sector initiatives and nonprofits like ours must fill. But to do so, we need to build our own financial “war chest,” ready to respond to needs we can only begin to anticipate.
The ongoing war in Ukraine has already created profound suffering, displacing millions and leaving entire communities without access to basic services. The sudden need for services from non-profit organizations means that the burden of care increasingly falls on us—and on you, our compassionate supporters.
We refuse to stand by as the most vulnerable suffer in silence. Your support has always been the backbone of our ability to make an impact. Now, it’s more critical than ever to strengthen that foundation so we can continue to adapt and respond in a world where uncertainty is the only constant.
Together, we can ensure that those who are too often overlooked receive the dignity and care they deserve.
Please join us in building a future of resilience and hope.
