But today, that darkness is growing.<\/p>

Russia\u2019s recent escalation is deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure and apartment buildings. What once felt unbearable\u2014life without power, heat, or safety\u2014has now become even more dangerous. Elders who once worried about surviving blackouts now fear a missile might strike their home. Many are too afraid to leave their apartments.<\/p>

Yet even within their walls, they feel no safety.<\/p>

Ella Goncharova, Action for Ukraine’s Director in Dnipro says,\u00a0 “The situation in Ukraine is currently very stressful. All cities face significant destruction and suffer from devastating explosions. The mental health of people is affected immensely.”<\/strong><\/p>

Our partners report a surge in extreme anxiety among the elderly. It’s manifesting in ways that resemble dementia, confusion, and severe withdrawal. What may seem like a medical condition is often a trauma response. We\u2019ve been asked to provide urgent mental health support and training for our coordinators so they can better care for the people they serve\u2014and themselves.<\/p>
