Dear Friends,\u00a0<\/p>


This week, I met with our Community Coordinators representing the 15 communities we serve across Ukraine. What they shared was both heartbreaking and humbling. With so many of our elders now living as internally displaced persons, our reach extends far beyond these 15 communities. Scattered across Ukraine, their stories paint a stark picture of life amidst relentless conflict.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

A coordinator described the situation:
“Our elderly live sitting on packed suitcases\u2014not knowing what might happen next. When I call, they are always crying. There are constant air raids, and they can hear and feel the missiles. The blackouts are long and unpredictable. They live in constant worry and anxiety.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The war is close\u2014so close it consumes every moment of their lives. For some, the next town over is under siege. Personal visits are no longer safe, and even delivering essential aid is fraught with danger. The emotional toll is immense. Optimism is fading. Loneliness is growing. The fear of cold winter nights without enough money for heat is palpable.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Yet, amidst this darkness, your support is a beacon of light.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

When our elders receive multivitamins, microgrants, telehealth visits, or take part in mental health programs, their gratitude shines through. They feel seen. They feel cared for. They are reminded that they are part of a global Jewish community that values their lives.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

One coordinator shared, “These moments of care remind them they are not alone. They feel safe, even if just for a moment.”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

This is the impact of your generosity. You are breaking through the darkness, providing safety nets of compassionate aid to the most vulnerable Jews in Ukraine\u2014those who have fall through the aid gap. Your kindness turns despair into hope.<\/p>

Tonight, we light the Shabbat candles, and next week, we light the Hanukkah candles.<\/p>

Thank you for expanding these lights and creating ripples of hope. Your support and generosity are changing lives.<\/p>
