Friends,<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

In the wake of recent events, the words of my friend echoed in my mind: “My heart breaks twice\u2013once for Ukraine and now Israel.” These sentiments resonate deeply within me as I navigate the complexities of our work, intertwined with the heartaches of two nations in turmoil. Personally, I never imagined that I would be so intimately involved in two wars.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

I know I am privileged to say this as I sit in the relative safety of my suburban Boston home, Yet,\u00a0 my heart breaks when I am on a ZOOM with all the Coordinators across our fifteen communities in Ukraine and they all start looking at their phones as their missile alerts begin to buzz, and the lights behind them begin to flicker. Everyday, I pray for Hersh Goldberg- Polin, one of the hostages taken into Gaza from the Nava music festival after having one of his arms blown off from a grenade thrown into the bomb shelter\u00a0 he and others had taken refuge in. Hersh participated in a teen-leadership Israel trip program I was the director of prior to my work at Action-PSJ.\u00a0 Despite the geographical distance that separates me from the conflict zones, the emotional toll weighs heavily, reminding me of the fragility of peace and the resilience of the human spirit.\u00a0<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

As I witness the challenges faced by our communities in Ukraine, compounded by the ongoing crisis in Israel, I am compelled to take action. The opportunity to lead a solidarity mission to Israel emerged, and upon presenting it to the executive committee of Action-PSJ, we unanimously agreed on its significance. This journey represents more than a mere visit; it symbolizes a profound commitment to solidarity, bridging gaps between nations and fostering lasting connections between Boston, Dnipro, and Israel.<\/strong><\/p>

Our six-day itinerary is designed to offer a multifaceted exploration of Israel post-October 7th, addressing urgent needs and engaging in meaningful interactions. From special Shabbat celebrations in Jerusalem to insightful discussions with influential figures from the refusenik era, every aspect of our journey is infused with purpose. We seek to listen, learn, and contribute, particularly to the challenges faced by elders transitioning from one war-torn region to another.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Moreover, we are hopeful to secure support from Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Greater Boston to alleviate some of the trip costs and facilitate the participation of Ella Gonchorova, Action’s Director in Ukraine. Ella’s firsthand experiences navigating the realities of war in Ukraine will offer invaluable insights, enriching our understanding and guiding our efforts towards meaningful impact.<\/strong><\/p>

I extend this invitation to you, inviting you to join me on this journey of solidarity and compassion. Together, we can provide support, extend a compassionate hand to the elderly Russian-speaking community, and stand in solidarity with those displaced from Ukraine, now finding themselves displaced once again in Israel.<\/p>
